Counsellor/ Psychotherapist West Cork
For years I wanted to train in psychotherapy but when I looked into the options for training courses I was disappointed in the content. When I discovered the Human Givens approach this model immediately made sense to me – as it does to my clients. It is grounded in up-to-date neuroscientific knowledge, is respectful, empowering, holistic, practical, effective and versatile.
Whatever your difficulty, whether it is in relation to emotional issues, unhelpful thinking styles, relationships, work-relatedissues, health or behavioural issues, I am happy to work with you to help you overcome setbacks, deal with trauma, break free from disabling habits or whatever is troubling you.
If you expect counselling to be a long, hard, painful slog, examining painful issues from the past– this is not how I work.
I will help you find solutions as quickly as possible to your current difficulties and if these arise from past experiences I will help you deal with these in a non-voyeuristic way where you are in control of how much or how little you disclose.
I always aim to help you feel better every session and if you like we can measure and chart your progress.
I use a range of therapeutic “tools” including guided imagery, storytelling and homework tasks. I like to empower and enable my clients by sharing explanations and teaching them new skills and strategies to become more in control of their lives.
Over my varied career, as a Social Worker in Mental Health, Manager with Mind and Community worker, I have worked with people in the community, in hospitals and secure units, young offenders, heroin addicts, young people leaving “care” and homeless people. I have worked mainly in UK and N Ireland with periods overseas working in developing countries.
If you are in need of some caring, effective counselling in West Cork, please contact me and I will be happy to help you take back control of your life and reclaim confidence, hope and joy.
