Alison is a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with a well- established private practice based in Cork city. She has experience in dealing with a wide range of problems including stress, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, post- traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), self esteem issues, stress-related illness, quitting smoking, weight loss and making healthy living choices. She tailors the therapy to suit individual client needs, drawing from a range of techniques and solution-focused therapeutic approaches, particularly mindfulness and the human givens approach. The aim is always to help clients take back control of their lives quickly and effectively.
Before becoming a counsellor & psychotherapist, Alison ran several successful businesses both in Ireland and the UK in fields as diverse as catering, driving instructing and software localisation. She later ran courses in all types of business subjects, including IT, accounting and entrepreneurship for local development partnerships, VECs and enterprise boards. Today, in addition to working as a therapist, she works as a freelance trainer in the area of personal development, particularly in the area of mental toughness or ‘how to bounce back’! She is currently involved in developing and running training projects with young unemployed people in the Cork area. Alison holds a Master’s degree in Psychotherapy from Nottingham Trent University and an Honours degree in Psychology from Hull University. She is also a fully qualified adult education teacher.
